Baylor University's National Society of Black Engineers
Overview

Our History

A Growing Legacy

The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) is the largest student- managed, non-profit organization in the USA that is committed to recruiting, retaining, and motivating its membership to successfully complete a college education. It is an organized network of support for individuals who are typically underrepresented in the engineering and science community. By implementing programs that promote academic excellence, personal growth, and career development, NSBE continues to increase the number of professionals who are committed to community development and prepared to successfully compete in technical surroundings.

Since its creation in 1975, the Society has grown to represent over 35,000 members and 270 colleges and universities nationwide. The student chapter of NSBE at Baylor University was chartered in 2014 due to strong student interest in promoting the goals of the national organization on campus. Since then, the Baylor chapter has become an active organization and is working to become one of the strongest organizations on campus.

With assistance of the Engineering and Computer Science Department, NSBE is working to increase the university’s recruitment, retention, and motivation of successful minority students in STEM majors.
